To the east, it borders Cabo Catoche and Laguna Yalahau separates it from the mainland.

Isla Holbox measures 43 kms. long and its beaches of fine sand are constantly adorned with seashells carried by the current of the light jade sea that bathes the island. Isla Holbox is only about 2 hours from Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum and the Riviera Maya.
